In the effort to contrast hate speech—explicit or implicit derogatory linguistic acts aimed at specific target groups, resulting in discrimination—it is vital to incorporate a perspective rooted in the history of ideas. More broadly, understanding the history of emotions and critically reflecting on the vocabulary used to express them stands as a crucial point, capable of influencing and innovating various aspects of our education and initiatives against hate-related phenomena.
Hence, following a brief overview of the objectives and results within the project CELO. Conoscenza e Educazione al contrasto del Linguaggio dell’Odio (Università della Tuscia e ILIESI-CNR)—encompassing research and dissemination, training and public engagement, dialogue with decision-makers, and accessibility and digital tools—proposals will be presented. For each proposal, a recommendation related to the history of emotions and critical examination of emotional languages will be suggested, specifying how they are made sustainable by the results achieved by the research, followed by an exploration of the advantages and disadvantages. The proposals cover five areas: school education, museum programs, professional training, religious freedom, and disability.
