To fully understand the complexity of active and healthy aging, fostering dialogue and collaboration across disciplines is crucial. The NUTRAGE project, with its extensive network of partner institutes and interdisciplinary approach, serves as a valuable platform for these interactions, encouraging meaningful discussions among researchers and stakeholders. The policy recommendations presented here emerge from a social sciences perspective, integrating legal, economic, and social insights. A key takeaway from this shared reflection is the recognition that older adults are not a homogeneous group – either as individuals or as consumers. The relationship between aging and food manifests in various ways, including purchasing habits, individual and communal consumption, and even food production. Each of these aspects presents both challenges and opportunities in addressing the needs of an aging population. Ultimately, the findings underscore that active and healthy aging stem from the integration of healthy practices across multiple dimensions – nutrition, physical activity, living environments, and social connections. This perspective seeks to inform policies and strategies that place older individuals at the center, adopting an inclusive and holistic approach to their well-being.
