SHARE ERIC (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe – European Research Infrastructure Consortium) (ESFRI Landmark)
SHARE, acknowledged as a Research Infrastructure by the European Commission and set up as ERIC in March 2011, is an interdisciplinary and longitudinal survey of economic, social, health and well-being conditions of the population aged 50+ in twenty-seven European countries (plus Israel), which supports the study of the effects of health, social, economic and environmental policies on the life course of European citizens.
The survey has involved approximately 140,000 individuals so far, interviewed every two years. The data collected is made available in open and FAIR mode to the scientific community and is also used by the European Commission and national governments.
The data collected and analysed include health variables (perceived health status, physical functionality, cognitive functionality, health risk behaviour, use of medical facilities), psychological variables (psychological health, well-being, level of satisfaction), economic variables (employment, job characteristics, job opportunities after retirement age, sources and composition of income, wealth and consumption, real estate, education) and social interaction variables (care within the family, transfers of goods and money, social relationships, voluntary activities).
The collection of micro data on the population over 50 serves to assess areas of need, support the development of effective social policies and study positive examples of good ageing, involving health (health services), social relations (formal and informal care) and economic conditions (pensions and savings).
Italy participates in SHARE-ERIC together with 14 other EU countries (plus Israel and Switzerland).
